LONDON – 20 May 2026: Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has stressed that Egypt shares normal ties with Israel. However, this relationship “is being affected with the Israeli aggressive policies” across the region.
During an interview with CNN host Christiane Amanpour on Tuesday, Abdelatty said Israeli attacks on Arab countries, including in Lebanon, as well as its assaults in the West Bank and Gaza are affecting these relations.
He, however, stressed Egypt’s commitment to its peace treaty with Israel as long as Israel also adheres to its obligations under the agreement.
Abdelatty was asked by CNN host Christiane Amanpour on whether Egypt and the Arab world would exert further efforts to push Israel to halt its regional attacks, including by using the peace treaty.
The foreign minister stated that Cairo is using its voice and influence “day and night” to push Israel to abide by its commitments, stating that “nobody gave a damn” about Israel’s two-year bombardment in Gaza.
“Two years of bombardment [in Gaza], killing more than 75,000 innocent Palestinians and injuring 170,000, and nobody gave a damn to that,” Abdelatty said.
“We are doing our best efforts, but it takes two to tango. We need the international community, the European Union, the United States, and others.”
